Nondestructive Testing

Nondestructive Testing (NDT) is a large group of testing and inspection techniques used to evaluate the properties of a material, component, or system, without causing damage. Our NDT techniques can find surface and subsurface defects or inconsistencies within test samples, without affecting the future operating performance of the inspected parts.

ITLS’ nondestructive testing methods include:

Surface Examinations

  • Liquid Penetrant Testing (Visible and Fluorescent)
    • Solvent Removable, Post-Emulsifiable, Water Washable
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection / Testing (Visible and Fluorescent)
    • Direct Magnetization (Bench, DC Yoke)
    • Indirect Magnetization (AC Yoke, Coil)

Volumetric Examinations

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) (Longitudinal and Angle Beam)
  • Contact Testing
  • Immersion Testing (Limited)

Radiographic Testing

Leak Testing

  • Bubble Leak Testing
  • Helium Mass Spectrometer Leak Detection
  • Pressure Rise/Drop

Visual Examinations

  • Direct and Remote
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI)
  • Alloy Identification (AI)

ITLS offers a variety of NDT method/technique capabilities, as well as diverse certifications including:

  • American Society of Nondestructive Testing: SNT-TC-1A
  • American Society of Nondestructive Testing: CP-189
  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers: B&PV Code Sections I, III, V, VIII, XI
  • Military Standard 2132
  • NAVSEA Welding Standard 250.1500-1

This diversity allows us to be a “one-stop shop” where our customer items are examined accurately and on-time.
